Mark Squires recently reviewed red wines from Long Island for Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate. Diliberto Winery submitted four wines: 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon, 2013 Cantina (50% Merlot, 50% Cabernet Franc), 2013 Merlot, and 2013 TRE (65% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Cabernet Franc). Here is what he had to say about our reds!
The Cabernet Sauvignon “is light and laced with some herbal nuances” while the Cantina “has a certain Old World ‘house wine’ feel to it–the bottle that someone goes into the backroom to fetch, claiming it was vinified just for them.” Squires also states the Cantina, which is one of our signature blends, has a “nice balance and some structure, plus lovely texture that makes it more sensual as it goes along. Bright and lively, it is has an appealingly juicy finish, too.”
“My favorite of the winery’s offerings this issue, this has a wonderful feel of older (and old style), maturing, Right Bank Merlot. Bright, very crisp (perhaps to a fault) and showing all that slate, earth and a bit of game, it is a pretty nice imitation up to a point. It has characters” he says of the Merlot. Of the TRE, Squires says “this is probably the deepest of the winery’s offering this issue,” adding “elegant and bright, it is well put together.”
We were thrilled to be among the Long Island wineries reviewed in this recent issue. Visit us soon to enjoy these wines at Diliberto Winery!
